Location Bergen op Zoom

On the border of Brabant and Zeeland lies the Brabantse Wal, one of the three Landscapes of Allure in North Brabant. An area where natural beauty, monuments, and cultural events are interwoven.

Unique landscape

The Brabantse Wal is a sandy plateau in the far west of the province of North Brabant, stretching from the Belgian border in the south to Steenbergen in the north and to Wouwse Plantage in the east. The area is notable for its wide variety of landscapes. The rolling terrain of the Brabantse Wal rises to 20 meters above sea level near Woensdrecht, offering stunning vistas. After climbing, the landscape abruptly transitions into the vast polders around Steenbergen, the waters of the Zeeland delta, and the forests of Wouwse Plantage.

City and region

At the heart of the region lies the Marquis City of Bergen op Zoom. Its more than 800 monuments tell the story of a rich and eventful past. The jewel of Bergen op Zoom is Het Markiezenhof, the former residential palace of the lords and marquises of Bergen op Zoom. An adventure through this expansive palace, with its many halls, rooms, galleries, stair towers, courtyards, and gardens, will give you a good impression of the history of the city and region. Het Markiezenhof also houses the fairground museum and the museum of international political cartoons.

The many cultural events and the wide range of shops and restaurants make a visit to this city more than worthwhile. For fun shopping, cultural experiences, and culinary delights, Bergen op Zoom is the place to be.

The vast forests surrounding Woensdrecht are a true paradise for cyclists and hikers. The cycling and hiking junction network guarantees many kilometers of cycling and hiking pleasure. Combine it with one of the culinary packages to make your day complete!

Water sports enthusiasts are also well catered for. Steenbergen boasts well-equipped marinas that are easily accessible from Zeeland and South Holland. Access from the Volkerak to the Steenbergse Vliet via the idyllic Benedensas lock complex is unique.
