The Brabantse Wal
The Brabantse Wal (Brabant Ridge) is situated on the brink of the Dutch provinces of Noord-Brabant and Zeeland. It’s one of the three Alluring Landscapes in Noord-Brabant. This is an area where natural beauty, heritage sites and cultural events are closely knit.

Battle Field Second Word War
70 years have passed since the end of World War II, but the interest it inspires is greater than ever. Popular TV stations seemingly broadcast documentaries on this most violent conflict in the history of mankind almost incessantly. You might think that everything has already been said and written about the Second World War, but there is an increasing number of new publications and books which provide fresh insights into the War itself, the background against which this conflict arose and its global consequences. So it is not surprising that the interest of the general public in World War ll is increasing, and that more and more people want to become better educated about this conflict. In close cooperation with the Liberation Route Europe Foundation and certain Canadian partners and heritage organizations, we gladly play our role in sharing our knowledge about World War II and the position of our part of the country within it.
Through this info, we would like to attract your attention to our venture, and share with you the excellent opportunities that our region has to offer to the visitor who is interested in Battle Field Tourism. Our region has a rich and eventful past when it comes to conflicts and warfare, specifically with regard to the Second World War. It is not without reason that there are two large war cemeteries in Bergen op Zoom, the final resting place of almost 2,500 soldiers who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
Vast diversity of scenery
The Brabantse Wal is a sandy ridge in the far west of the Province of Noord- Brabant that stretches from the Belgian border in the south to the town of Steenbergen in the north and Wouwse Plantage in the east. The area’s most striking feature is the vast diversity of its scenery. The gentle rolling hills of the Brabant Ridge reach over 20 metres above sea level near Woensdrecht and then suddenly drop to the vast polders around Steenbergen, the waterways of Zeeland’s delta and woodlands in Wouwse Plantage.
The city of Bergen op Zoom is situated in the centre of this region. The city’s many heritage sites recount the story of a rich and eventful past. Bergen op Zoom is well worth a visit for its many cultural events and its varied offer of shops, bars and restaurants.
The extensive woodlands around Woensdrecht are a true haven for bikers and hikers. The special system of centre-routes offer many kilometres of biking and hiking delight.
The waterways also offer many leisure opportunities. Steenbergen has fully equipped marinas which are easily accessible from Zeeland and Zuid-Holland. Connections to the sailing route network are excellent and create great opportunities to discover the area by its waterways.
The Brabantse Wal: a top region for a taste of culture, fun shopping, culinary delights and active leisure. Discover, enjoy and experience!
